I feel like this past week has felt like a side quest.
Sidequests in video games are missions that are optional to do. They don’t progress the main story, but doing them offers some more insight into the story or helps build your experience points up with your character.
Sometimes the side quest can be pointless and after doing them, you ask yourself why you didn’t spend that time doing a main story mission.
This is how I’ve been feeling this past week. I’ve been doing a lot of tasks that in theory are getting me closer to my main goal, but there has also been a lot of work that feels worthless. Earlier this week, I prepared for three interviews, one of which was a final round for a company. Preparing for an interview takes a lot of time and energy out of your day. By the time I do the interviews, I’m exhausted, and it’s hard to muster up the strength to keep working for the rest of the day.
Because of that, my progress toward YouTube has felt marginal. See I’m viewing YouTube and Photography as my main quest missions and doing these other tasks could get me slightly closer to the main goal but it could also be wasting my time.
I try my best to not be that harsh about it. I’m trying to take the framework of believing that the side quests I’m currently doing are building up my strengths and experience to make me an even better person for my main missions.
Oddly enough, viewing life in this video game frame of mind does make doing tasks more enjoyable. You just feel that you’re getting stronger and building experience toward a better version of yourself after completing a task.
Things I’m enjoying 😌
Books 📚: I took a break from reading this week because I’ve been using that time to prepare for my book review video on Ramit Sethi’s I Will Teach You To Be Rich. The video should be published this week!
Podcasts 🎙️: I loved listening to Jay Shetty’s episode with Tom Holland. Tom is one of my favorite actors because of his role in the Spider-Man films. He also seems like a cool dude to hang with. This podcast is definitely worth a listen if you want to hear how Tom has taken a small break from acting, battled anxiety, and how he deals with negativity.
But my favorite part of the show is when he goes into detail about his journey of cutting out alcohol in his life. He mentions that he wasn’t addicted to it but noticed that he started to rely on it in social situations to make himself feel good. He just one day decided he was not going to consume it anymore and he’s been sober for a while now.
Movies and Shows 📺: Still enjoying The Office!
Video Games 🎮: I recently got into Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild. I finally gave it another chance, and I’m really enjoying myself. The game makes it enjoyable to roam around and just take in the world. There is no pressure to follow the main quest. It’s oddly satisfying and calming to play.
Music 🎵: Admittedly, I’m not a Taylor Swift fan, but her acoustic version of Cornelia Street is really good. I’m a sucker for anything that is acoustic. Plus it helps that this song is very catchy and great.
My Win of the week 🗣️
My win of the week is scripting out my upcoming book review video. I put in a good amount of time in the intro and the main part of the video.
