This week has been eventful for many reasons. The biggest one was that I celebrated my 25th birthday on Thursday.
I had a fun solo day where I hiked the bamboo forest in Atlanta, checked out a local bookstore, and then had some vegan hot dogs for dinner. While the activities were fun, it was great getting time to recharge and reflect on the growth I’ve gone through.
24 was a challenging age for me. So many things that were a constant in my life a year ago are no longer there. It’s been a painful process trying to grow and better myself but I left that reflection feeling really optimistic about the future.
I have a clear vision of where I want my YouTube channel to go next year, which is a big change from my thoughts a year ago. Last year, I would always talk about the vision I have for YouTube, but I failed to act on that vision. I let life and other things get in the way of me accomplishing my dream. This year, I’ve made strides to get closer to that end goal.
I also have a better picture of what type of career I want to go for and so much more. I know the process will continue to be painful and I’ll learn new things about myself each and every day, but it’s just nice having a brighter horizon to look forward to after so many months spent being down.
I would love to have these checkups with myself on a more frequent basis this year. I could definitely see myself implementing a three-month check-in to see how I’m doing mentally, and emotionally and the progress I’m making towards my goals. These checks allow you to reset yourself and focus on what’s important in your life.
I’m also challenging myself to learn Notion this week. I’d love to have a central repository to handle my content planning for YouTube and the newsletters, along with my other goals in life.
Notion has always intimidated me, so I never took the time to learn the program. I’ve heard about all the benefits it provides for people. So in the spirit of turning 25, I’m going to learn this program!
Things I’m enjoying 😌
Books 📚: I was gifted the book, The Defining Decade written by Dr. Meg Jay as a birthday gift. I haven’t read it yet, but so many of my peers who are in their mid to early twenties have talked about how great the book is but also how much anxiety it gave them.
I’m trying to keep my mind open to all the ideas in the book and not come in with a preconceived notion about it. I’ll report back later on my thoughts on the book.
Podcasts 🎙️: I listened to an episode of the Flagarant podcast hosted by Andrew Schulz and Akaash Singh. This is mainly a funny podcast, so listen to it at your own discretion. I’ve said this before, but it’s important not to always consume self-help content because if you never take the time to implement the teachings then you’re doing yourself a disservice.
Movies and Shows 📺: I’m gonna lump College Football into this category because I’ve been on my couch all weekend watching the games. I love this sport, and I’m so happy that it’s back.
Video Games 🎮: Since getting the platinum on Ratchet and Clank, I’ve spent a good amount of time playing FIFA 23 again. Nothing to report here, but I’m looking forward to the release of Spider-Man 2 in October 👀
Music 🎵: I’ve been in a FIFA mood this past week, so I’ve been bumping my FIFA playlist on Apple Music. I have all the bangers from the old FIFAs I used to play.
My Win of the week 🗣️
My win of the week is taking time for myself to enjoy my birthday and be with family and friends. In the past, I would normally be kind of stressed out on my birthdays because I would be thinking about the next project I wanted to work on, but this year I made a conscious effort to enjoy the present moment and that made a big difference in my happiness.
It’s crazy what happens when you allow your mind to be present and stop worrying about the unknown.
